제 1독서 First Reading
< Set apart Barnabas and Saul for me. > 

▥ A reading from the Acts of the Apostles.  Acts 12:24—13:5a
The word of God continued to spread and grow.
After Barnabas and Saul completed their relief mission,
they returned to Jerusalem,
taking with them John, who is called Mark.
Now there were in the Church at Antioch prophets and teachers:
Barnabas, Symeon who was called Niger, Lucius of Cyrene,
Manaen who was a close friend of Herod the tetrarch, and Saul.
While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said,
“Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul
for the work to which I have called them.”
Then, completing their fasting and prayer,
they laid hands on them and sent them off.
So they, sent forth by the Holy Spirit,
went down to Seleucia
and from there sailed to Cyprus.
When they arrived in Salamis,
they proclaimed the word of God in the Jewish synagogues.

The Word of the Lord.

✠ The Holy Gospel according to John. Jn 12:44-50
Jesus cried out and said,
“Whoever believes in me believes not only in me
but also in the one who sent me,
and whoever sees me sees the one who sent me.
I came into the world as light,
so that everyone who believes in me might not remain in darkness.
And if anyone hears my words and does not observe them,
I do not condemn him,
for I did not come to condemn the world but to save the world.
Whoever rejects me and does not accept my words
has something to judge him: the word that I spoke,
it will condemn him on the last day,
because I did not speak on my own,
but the Father who sent me commanded me what to say and speak.
And I know that his commandment is eternal life.
So what I say, I say as the Father told me.”

< Easter Proclamation 1: The Mystery of the Paschal > 

It is truly right and just,
our duty and our salvation,
always and everywhere to give you thanks,
O Lord, holy Father, almighty and everlasting God.
But on this night, above all nights,
we are bound to praise you with joy and gladness,
for on this night Christ our Passover has been sacrificed.
He is the true Lamb who has taken away the sins of the world.
By his death he has destroyed our death,
and by his rising to life he has restored us to life.
Therefore, the whole world exults in gladness,
and the choirs of angels sing in heaven.
The redeemed rejoice on earth,
and all creation is radiant

오늘의 묵상 Today's Meditation

Following yesterday's gospel, today's text also repeatedly uses the word "I" to directly inform us who Jesus is. Above all, Jesus declares "with a loud voice" that he is "one with God." "Whoever believes in me believes in the one who sent me. And whoever sees me sees the one who sent me." Jesus was sent to reveal God, and therefore we see the face of God through Jesus.
Next, he speaks of his two missions through the 'contrasting concepts' of light and darkness, salvation and judgment. "I came into this world as light. ... I want no one to remain in darkness." "I did not come to judge the world, but to save the world." His mission is to prevent us from being left in darkness and to be saved.
Then Jesus returns to the theme of 'oneness'. "The words I speak are what the Father has told me to speak." Since his words are the words of God, they cannot be anything other than truth and life. The reading testifies to how alive and dynamic this 'word' is. "In those days the word of God spread and grew even more."
The Greek word 'krazo', translated as "spoke with a loud voice", means to shout vehemently like a cry. To the Jews who would not listen no matter how much he spoke and endlessly demanded only proofs and signs, Jesus finally spoke vehemently about who he was and what mission he had come with. Jesus came as light so that we would not be in darkness, but if we still cling to darkness with our destructive doubts, we will not be able to face that light. No matter how much Jesus warns us every day through his words with a firm and vehement tone.
