In 2000, Pope John Paul II, who had a deep devotion to God's mercy, canonized Saint Faustina Kowalska, a Polish nun, on the Second Sunday of Easter, which was also the Great Jubilee Year. During the ceremony, the Pope urged all Christians to pay special attention to God's mercy.
In response, the Church has been celebrating the Second Sunday of Easter as "Divine Mercy Sunday" every year since 2001. This is a time to give thanks for the great mercy of God, who saved us through the birth, death, and resurrection of His only Son, Jesus Christ.

The Church has designated the Second Sunday of Easter as "Divine Mercy Sunday" to commemorate and celebrate God's boundless mercy. In today's Gospel, the Risen Jesus breathes the Holy Spirit upon His disciples and tells them to forgive sins.
Whenever we realize that we have been forgiven of our sins through the Lord's mercy, we experience the joy of Easter. Let us participate in this Mass with joy, committing ourselves to live a life of forgiveness and reconciliation with one another.

The community of believers was of one heart and mind,
and no one claimed that any of his possessions was his own,
but they had everything in common.
With great power the apostles bore witness
to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus,
and great favor was accorded them all.
There was no needy person among them,
for those who owned property or houses would sell them,
bring the proceeds of the sale,
and put them at the feet of the apostles,
and they were distributed to each according to need.

Beloved:

when we love God and obey his commandments.
For the love of God is this,
that we keep his commandments.
And his commandments are not burdensome,
for whoever is begotten by God conquers the world.
And the victory that conquers the world is our faith.
Who indeed is the victor over the world
but the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?
This is the one who came through water and blood, Jesus Christ,
not by water alone, but by water and blood.
The Spirit is the one that testifies,
and the Spirit is truth.

of the week, Jesus came. >

✠ The Holy Gospel according to John. Jn 20:19-31
On the evening of that first day of the week,
when the doors were locked, where the disciples were,
for fear of the Jews,
Jesus came and stood in their midst
and said to them, "Peace be with you."
When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side.
The disciples rejoiced when they saw the Lord.
Jesus said to them again, "Peace be with you.
As the Father has sent me, so I send you."
And when he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them,
"Receive the Holy Spirit.
Whose sins you forgive are forgiven them,
and whose sins you retain are retained."
Thomas, called Didymus, one of the Twelve,
was not with them when Jesus came.
So the other disciples said to him, "We have seen the Lord."
But he said to them,
"Unless I see the mark of the nails in his hands
and put my finger into the nailmarks
and put my hand into his side, I will not believe."
Now a week later his disciples were again inside
and Thomas was with them.
Jesus came, although the doors were locked,
and stood in their midst and said, "Peace be with you."
Then he said to Thomas, "Put your finger here and see my hands,
and bring your hand and put it into my side,
and do not be unbelieving, but believe."
Thomas answered and said to him, "My Lord and my God!"
Jesus said to him, "Have you come to believe because you have seen me?
Blessed are those who have not seen and have believed."
Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of his disciples
that are not written in this book.
But these are written that you may come to believe
that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God,
and that through this belief you may have life in his name.

Merciful Lord, guide the Church as it lives in a world filled with turmoil. May it be grateful for Your mercy, imitate it in practice, and courageously proclaim the Gospel of salvation for all humanity.
2. Our Country:
Just Lord, look upon our country as it approaches elections. Grant us a fair and clean election, and instill in those who are elected the wisdom and justice to serve the country and its people.
3. The Dignity and Vocation of Women:
Gentle Lord, care for women in all cultures. May the dignity and worth of women be recognized, and may the discrimination that women face in many parts of the world be eliminated. Awaken women to their vocation.
4. Our Parish (Diocese, Religious Order) Community:
Protector Lord, look upon our parish (diocese, religious order) community. May all of us follow Your teachings and devote our full strength to caring for the world.

The community of believers in the early church was of one heart and one soul, and they held everything in common. There was not a needy person among them. Those who believed that Jesus is the Messiah and the Son of God received life in his name and manifested great power and enjoyed great grace.

오늘의 묵상  Today's Meditation

The Gospel of the Second Sunday of Easter recounts the events that took place on the evening after Jesus' resurrection, marking the end of the Octave of Easter. It contains several important theological themes, which I will summarize briefly:

1. Peace:
Jesus appears to the disciples who are still filled with fear and greets them with "Peace be with you." This is not a mere greeting but a powerful declaration of the peace that Jesus brings to the world. The repetition of this phrase three times (symbolizing completeness) emphasizes that this peace is only possible when Jesus is present among us.

2. New Creation:
Jesus breathes on the disciples and says, "Receive the Holy Spirit." The peace ("shalom") that Jesus brings is a return to the perfect and abundant state that existed before the world was corrupted by sin. The act of breathing symbolizes that Jesus' resurrection leads us to a "new creation."

3. Wounds:
The resurrected Jesus shows his disciples his wounds. This emphasizes that the resurrection is inextricably linked to the cross. Thomas demands to see and touch Jesus' wounds. Jesus, in his great mercy, appears to the disciples again and invites Thomas to touch his wounds.

4. Personal Confession:
The dialogue between Jesus and Thomas is filled with first-person (I, me) and second-person (you, your) pronouns. This highlights that the resurrection is an event that must be experienced and confessed personally, as Thomas did when he exclaimed, "My Lord and my God."

5. Mercy:
This personal confession of faith must be translated into love and compassion for others. As the readings for today show, Jesus' resurrection is made evident through our acts of love and mercy towards one another.
