[ ๋ฐฑ ] God's Supper, Holy Thursday

< Gloria

The Church begins the Sacred Triduum with the Mass of the Lord's Supper.
On the night before he was arrested, Jesus shared a last meal with his disciples. During this meal, he offered his body and blood to God the Father in the form of bread and wine. He also showed his great love for his disciples by washing their feet.
In obedience to Jesus' command, his disciples and their successors have continued to celebrate this meal as the Eucharist. The Eucharist is a central part of Christian life, and it is a time when we remember Jesus' sacrifice and his love for us.

์˜ค๋Š˜ ์ „๋ก€  Today Liturgy

Today is Holy Thursday.
In this Mass, let us meditate on the mystery of the Eucharist and the new commandment of love.
Let us participate in the foot-washing ceremony and resolve to live in love and service to one another.
Let us stay awake and pray before the Blessed Sacrament (repository) throughout the night, meditating on the love of the Lord who gave himself up for us.

์ž…๋‹น์†ก  Introit Antiphon Galatians 6:14

We will boast in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ,
for he is our salvation, our life, and our resurrection.
Through him, we have obtained salvation and freedom.

๋ณธ๊ธฐ๋„ Collect

O God, the Father,
In the face of death,
Your Son entrusted to the Church
This holy meal,
A new and everlasting covenant
And a feast of love.
Grant to us who share in this wondrous mystery
The abundance of your love and life.
Through Christ our Lord,
With the Holy Spirit,
One God,
Forever and ever.
Amen.

์ œ 1๋…์„œ  First Reading
< The Rules of the Passover Meal >

โ–ฅ From the Book of Exodus.   12,1-8.11-14
Then the Lord said to Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt.
"Make this month your first month, and your first month of the year.
3. Tell this to the whole community of Israel.
"On March 10th of this month, you will have a small livestock in each household,
Prepare a small farm animal for each house.
If you don't have a family and you have too many animals,
Prepare the beast with your nearest neighbor according to the number of people.
Choose the beast according to the amount each eats.
This beast is a flawless male from a year ago, and be prepared among sheep and goats.
You will leave it until the 14th of this month,
All the communities of Israel gather and catch them in the evening.
and take his blood, and apply it to the two pillars of the house where the beasts are eaten, and to the merchant's room.
I should have eaten the meat that night,
It should be grilled over a fire and eaten with malted bread and bitter vegetables.
11 When you eat it, you tie a belt around your waist, put shoes on your feet, and hold a cane in your hand,
You have to hurry up and eat. This is the Pascha Festival for God.
This night I passed through the land of Egypt,
"From man to beast, we will defeat all the eldest and eldest sons of the land of Egypt."
and punish all the Egyptian gods. I am the Lord.
13 The blood applied to your house will be the cover for you.
When I strike Egypt, I see its blood and you pass by.
and no calamity will destroy you.
It's your anniversary,
On this day, hold a festival for God.
We should make this an eternal rule and spend

it as a holiday for generations to come."

๋ณต์Œ  Gospel
< Jesus loved his people to the very end. >

โœ  The Holy Gospel according to John.   Jn 13:1-15
1 Before the Passover festival began,

Jesus knew that his hour had come to depart from this world and go to the Father.

Having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them to the end.
2 The evening meal was in progress,

and the devil had already prompted Judas,

the son of Simon Iscariot, to betray Jesus.
3 Jesus knew that the Father had put all things under his power,

and that he had come from God and was returning to God;
4 so he got up from the meal,

took off his outer clothing,

and wrapped a towel around his waist.
5 After that, he poured water into a basin and began to wash his disciples' feet,

drying them with the towel that was wrapped around him.
6 He came to Simon Peter, who said to him,

"Lord, are you going to wash my feet?"
7 Jesus replied,

"You do not realize now what I am doing, but later you will understand."
8 "No," said Peter,

"you shall never wash my feet."
Jesus answered,

"Unless I wash you, you have no part with me."
9 "Then, Lord," Simon Peter replied,

"not just my feet but my hands and my head as well!"
10 Jesus answered,

"Those who have had a bath need only to wash their feet;

their whole body is clean. And you are clean, though not every one of you."
11 For he knew who was going to betray him,

and that was why he said not every one was clean.
12 When he had finished washing their feet,

he put on his clothes and returned to his place.

"Do you understand what I have done for you?" he asked them.
13 "You call me 'Teacher' and 'Lord,' and rightly so,

for that is what I am.
14 Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet,

you also should wash one another's feet.
15 I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you.

๋ฐœ ์”ป๊น€ ์˜ˆ์‹  Foot Washing Ceremony

After the sermon,
the foot washing ceremony may be held if necessary for pastoral reasons.
The ministers lead those selected from among the people of God to the prepared place.

The priest (if necessary, taking off his vestments) pours water on each person's feet and dries them with a towel. The ministers assist the priest.

During this time, the following responsorial chants or other appropriate songs are sung.

Antiphonal Chant 1       Jn 13:4.5.15
โ—Ž The Lord rose from the table,
     Poured water into a basin,
      And washed the disciples' feet.
He set an example for them in this way.

Antiphonal Chant 2      Jn 13: 12.14.15
โ—Ž After the Lord Jesus had supper with his disciples,
He washed their feet and said to them,
"Do you understand what I have done to you?
I have set an example for you to do as I have done."

Antiphonal Chant 3      Jn 13: 6.7.8
โ—Ž God, is he going to wash my feet?
     answered Jesus.
     if I don't wash you
You can't get any share with me.
โ—‹ He spoke to Simon Peter, and he said. โ—Ž
โ—‹ Although you don't know my job now
     You'll find out later. โ—Ž

Antiphonal Chant 4      Jn 13: 14
โ—Ž I, the Lord and Master, washed your feet
Don't you have to wash each other's feet?

Antiphonal Chant 5      Jn 13: 35
โ—Ž If you love each other
Everyone will see and know that you are my disciples.
โ—‹ Jesus said to his disciples. โ—Ž

Antiphonal Chant 6     Jn 13: 34
โ—Ž God says. I will give you a new commandment.
Love each other. Love each other just as I loved you.

Antiphonal Chant 7      1Corin 13:13
โ—Ž Trust, hope, and love will continue in you
Among them, love is the best.
โ—‹ Trust, hope and love, these three things continue
Among them, love is the best. โ—Ž

After the foot washing ceremony, the priest washes and dries his hands.

He puts on his vestments again and returns to his place. He then leads the universal prayer.

๊ฐ์‚ฌ์†ก  Preface
< Eucharistic Preface 1: Christ's Sacrifice and the Sacrament >

Holy Father, almighty and everlasting God,
Through our Lord Jesus Christ,
it is truly right and our duty at all times
and in all places to give you thanks, Father most holy.
For he, your only Son, our Lord Jesus Christ,
is the true and eternal priest, who,
offering himself once for all as a perfect sacrifice for our sins,
entered into the holy of holies, not made with hands,
but into heaven itself, now to appear in your presence for us.
Therefore, as we celebrate the memorial
of his death and resurrection, we offer you,
O Lord, the bread of life and the cup of salvation,
giving thanks to you through him, and we pray:
Look with favor on your Church,
which you have purchased with the precious blood
of your Son, and bring us all to the unity
of your holy Spirit.
Remember your people throughout the world,
and sanctify them in the truth. Your word is truth.
Keep safe and strengthen your servants,
the bishops, priests, and deacons,
and all who minister in your holy Church.
Pour out your gifts on your people,
and guide us in the way of peace.
Bring us, together with all your saints,
into the joy of your eternal kingdom,
where we shall live and praise you through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.

Let us live by loving one another as Jesus loved us.

์˜์„ฑ์ฒด ํ›„ ๊ธฐ๋„  Prayer after Communion

Almighty God,
May we be strengthened by the Eucharist in this life,

Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Amen.

์˜ค๋Š˜์˜ ๋ฌต์ƒ  Today's Meditation

The Triduum begins with the celebration of the Lord's Supper Mass, which can be considered the culmination of salvation history. Therefore, all the readings and the Gospel of today's liturgy introduce the 'Supper' scene. The First Reading introduces the Passover Supper of the Old Testament, the Second Reading introduces the Supper of the early Church, and the Gospel introduces the Last Supper of Jesus. Just as the 'Old Testament Passover' began with Moses' exhortation to the Israelites, the 'New Testament Passover' began with Jesus' Last Supper.
The story of the Last Supper in the Gospel of John focuses on the themes of 'love' and 'service.' Sensing that his time with his disciples was coming to an end, Jesus expressed his love for them in a tangible way. Love cannot be hidden, and it always leads to concrete action. Jesus showed that love must be expressed through service by washing the feet of his disciples.
In Jewish culture, it was customary to wash the feet of guests who had traveled long distances on dusty roads. Jesus took on the role of a servant and washed the feet of his disciples, teaching them that love must be expressed through service. He then asked them, "Do you understand what I have done to you?" In the original Greek text, the verb "understand" comes first, emphasizing the question "Do you know why I am doing this?" The answer is given in the following verse: "I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you." The love that is expressed through service, as Jesus did, is the task that we are called to do.
God kneels before humanity. This love, which kneels before the unjust violence of the privileged and before the human who betrayed him, will now be solemnly remembered and celebrated throughout the Triduum.
