The Easter Vigil, also known as the Great Vigil of Easter, is the most solemn and important liturgy in the Catholic Church. It is a celebration of the resurrection of Jesus Christ, which is the foundation of the Christian faith.
 It is a time of waiting and watching, as the faithful anticipate the dawn of Easter and the victory of Christ over death.
The Vigil begins with the blessing of the new fire, which symbolizes the light of Christ that dispels the darkness of sin and death. The congregation then lights their candles from the new fire, and the Easter Proclamation is sung, which recounts the great deeds of God throughout history.

Prepare a brazier fire in a suitable place outside the cathedral. The priest goes there with the volunteers after the companions gather. A volunteer takes a Pascarcho. Do not bring in crosses or candles in the procession.
If it is not possible to prepare fire outside the cathedral, it can also be done inside the cathedral gate (see paragraph 13).
The priest says, "In the name of the Holy Father, the saint, and the Holy Spirit," and draws the Cross with the believers. The priest then, as usual, greets the gathered companions, and briefly explains the ceremony of the Holy Night with the words below and similar.

+ brothers and sisters,
On this holy night,
when our Lord Jesus Christ passed
from death to life, the Church encourages all
her children throughout the world to keep watch and pray.
Now we will listen to the word of the Lord,
celebrate the mystery of our salvation,
and commemorate the Lord's Passover.
In this way, we too may overcome death
and live with Christ in God.

The celebrant then extends his arms and

says the following prayer of blessing over the fire:
โ•‹ Let us pray.
O God,
who through your Son have bestowed
upon your faithful the fire of your love, bless +
this new fire, we pray, and grant that
as we celebrate this Easter festival,
we may yearn for heavenly things and,
with pure hearts, share in the feast of eternal light.

After inscribing the cross and other letters on the candle, the celebrant inserts five grains of incense into the holes that have been pierced in the candle, in the form of a cross, saying as he does so:
1. Christ our Lord,
2. by your holy and
3. glorious wounds,
4. guard and
5. protect us. Amen.

If it is not possible to prepare a fire outside the church, the blessing of the fire may be adapted as follows. The congregation gathers in the church as usual. The celebrant, with the ministers carrying the Paschal candle, goes to the church door. The congregation, if possible, turns to face the celebrant. The celebrant greets the congregation and explains the rite as in no. 9 above. Then the blessing of the fire and the preparation of the Paschal candle take place as in nos. 10-12 above.

The Celebrant lights the Paschal candle from the new fire and says the following prayer:
โ•‹ May the light of Christ, rising in glory,
     dispel the darkness of our hearts and minds.
 
The Conference of Bishops may establish other forms for these rites, more in keeping with the cultural traditions of different peoples.
 

ํ–‰๋ ฌ  Processions

After the Paschal candle has been lit, a minister takes a burning ember from the brazier and places it in the censer. The celebrant incenses the censer in the usual way. The deacon, or another suitable minister, takes the Paschal candle and begins the procession. The thurifer, carrying the smoking censer, precedes the deacon or minister carrying the Paschal candle. The celebrant, the ministers, and the congregation follow. All carry unlit candles in their hands.

At the church door, the deacon stops, raises the Paschal candle high, and sings:
โ•‹ Christ our light.
All respond:
โ—Ž Thanks be to God.

The celebrant lights his own candle from the Paschal candle.
Then the deacon, having reached the middle of the church, stops, raises the Paschal candle high, and sings again:
โ•‹ Christ our light.
All respond:
โ—Ž Thanks be to God.
All light their candles from the Paschal candle and the procession continues.

The deacon, having reached the altar, faces the congregation, raises the Paschal candle high, and sings for the third time:
โ•‹ Christ our light.
All respond:

The deacon then places the Paschal candle in a large stand next to the ambo or on the altar.
The lights in the church are then turned on, except for the sanctuary lamp.

 

ํŒŒ์Šค์นด ์ฐฌ์†ก  The Exsultet:

Having reached the altar, the celebrant goes to the presider's chair and hands his candle to a minister. Then, as before the reading of the Gospel at Mass, he incenses and blesses the censer. The deacon approaches the celebrant and asks for the blessing, saying: "Bless me, Father, to proclaim the Easter Proclamation." The celebrant says quietly the following blessing:

โ•‹ May the Lord be in your heart and on your lips,
that you may worthily and faithfully proclaim his Easter Proclamation.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
Deacon:
โ— Amen.

This blessing is omitted if someone other than a deacon is to sing the Exsultet.
The deacon incenses the book and the candle and sings the Exsultet from the ambo or a lectern. At this time, all stand with lighted candles in their hands.
In the absence of a deacon, the celebrant or another concelebrating priest may sing the Exsultet. A lay cantor may also sing it. In this case, the following are omitted: the exhortation "Here gathered ... let us praise" and the greeting "The Lord be with you. - And with your spirit."

In the Mother of all Vigils, the Paschal Vigil, nine readings are proclaimed: seven from the Old Testament and two from the New Testament (an epistle and a gospel). If possible, all the readings should be proclaimed, even if it means the vigil will be longer, in order to preserve the character of the liturgy as a nightlong celebration of the resurrection of Christ.
For serious pastoral reasons, the number of Old Testament readings may be reduced, but it should not be forgotten that the reading of the word of God is essential to this Paschal Vigil. At least three readings should be read from the Old Testament, namely from the Law or the Prophets, with each followed by its responsorial psalm. The reading from Exodus 14 and its canticle may never be omitted.

All sit with their candles extinguished. Before the readings begin, the priest exhorts the people with the following words or something similar:

โ•‹ My dear brothers and sisters,
We have begun the celebration
of the Easter Vigil with great solemnity.
Let us now open our hearts
and minds to the word of God,
which will be proclaimed to us in nine readings.
These readings will recount the great deeds
of God's salvation history,
from the creation of the world
to the resurrection of his Son.
As we listen to these readings,
let us ponder the mysteries
of our faith and let our hearts
be filled with joy and hope.

After the exhortation by the priest, the readings are proclaimed.
After each reading, the responsorial psalm is sung or chanted by the cantor or psalmist, and the people respond.
Then all stand, and the priest says, "Let us pray." After a brief period of silence for prayer, the priest prays the prayer after the reading.
The responsorial psalm may be replaced by a period of silence. In this case, the priest says, "Let us pray" immediately after the reading and prays the prayer.

"Why do you shout at me?"
Tell the Israelites to move forward.
16 With four sticks, you reach over the sea and cut through the sea,
Let the Israelites walk on dry ground in the middle of the sea.
17 I will make the hearts of the Egyptians stubborn and follow you.
And then I went to Pharaoh and all his armies,
"I want to strike his soldiers and cavalry, and reveal my glory.
If I strike Pharaoh and his soldiers and his cavalry to show my glory,
The Egyptians will know that I am the Lord."
19. The angel of God who was standing in front of the army of Israel
I moved and went behind them.
The cloud column also moved in front of them and stood behind them.

22 Israel's descendants walked into the middle of the sea on dry land.
The water formed a wall from their left and right sides. 23. Then came the Egyptians.
Pharaoh's horses, soldiers and cavalry all followed them into the middle of the sea.
24 At dawn, God had a pillar of fire and a pillar of cloud
Looking down at the Egyptian army, they were thrown into confusion.
25 and he kept the wheels of the Egyptian soldiers from moving,
It was made difficult to drive the culvert.
Then the Egyptians said, "Let's escape from Israel.
God is fighting Egypt for them."
26 The Lord said to Moses. "Reach out over the sea,
Let the water return over the Egyptians and their soldiers and cavalry."
twenty-seven Moses reached over the sea. When dawn broke, the water returned to its original place.
So the Egyptians who were running away ran into the water.
God pushed the Egyptians into the middle of the sea.
28 Water came back and followed the Israelites into the sea
Pharaoh's army attacked all the soldiers and cavalry.
None of them survived.
But the Israelites walked on dry land in the middle of the sea.
The water formed a wall from their left and right sides.
30 On that day God thus saved Israel from the hands of the Egyptians,
Israel came to see Egyptians dying on the beach.
31 Thus Israel saw the great power which the Lord exercised upon the Egyptians.
Then the people came to fear the Lord, and to believe in him and his cousin.

์„ธ๋ก€ ์ „๋ก€  Liturgy of Baptism

After the homily, the baptismal liturgy is celebrated.
If there is a baptismal font in front of the faithful, the priest goes to the font with the ministers. If there is no font, a bowl of water is prepared on the altar.
The candidates for baptism are called. Adults come forward with their godparents, and infants come forward with their parents and godparents.
If there is a procession to the baptismal font or baptistry, it begins immediately. A server carrying the Paschal candle leads the way, followed by the candidates for baptism, their godparents, the ministers, the deacon, and the priest. The "Litany of the Saints" is sung during the procession. When the litany is finished, the priest gives the following exhortation or a similar one.
If the baptismal liturgy is celebrated at the altar, the priest begins the exhortation with the following words or something similar:

who are now coming forward to be baptized.

When two cantors sing the Litany of the Saints, all stand and respond (since it is the Easter season).
If the distance to the baptismal font is long, the procession takes place while the Litany of the Saints is sung. In this case, the candidates for baptism are called before the procession and form the procession. The procession is led by the Paschal candle, followed by the candidates for baptism and their godparents, then the ministers, followed by the deacon and the priest. The exhortation is given immediately before the blessing of the baptismal water.
If there are no candidates for baptism and the baptismal font is not to be blessed, the Litany of the Saints is omitted and the water is blessed immediately (cf. no. 54).

The priest extends his arms and prays the following prayer:
โ•‹  O God, by your unseen power
you work through the sacraments
to accomplish the mysteries of salvation,
and in many ways you have prepared
water to be a sign of grace:
In the beginning you hovered over the waters,
and already then the power
to sanctify was present in them.
O God, you washed away sin through the flood,
and in the mystery of those waters you foreshadowed baptism,
the new beginning of life.
You led your people through the sea on dry land,
freeing them from slavery to Pharaoh,
and you made them a sign of your new people,
washed in baptism.
O God,
When your Son was baptized by John in the Jordan,
he was consecrated by the Holy Spirit.
Hanging on the cross,
he poured out blood and water from his side.
And after he rose from the dead,
he commanded his disciples:
“Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to all nations,
baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.”
O God, look kindly upon your Church,
and let the font of baptism spring up within her.
By the power of the Holy Spirit,
pour out the grace of your Son upon this water,
that those who are created in the image of God
may be cleansed of all sin through the sacrament of baptism
and be born anew of water and the Spirit.
If appropriate, the priest immerses
the Easter candle in the water once or three times, saying:
Lord, through your Son, fill this font with the power of the Holy Spirit.
With the Easter candle still immersed in the water, the priest continues:
May all who are baptized into Christ's death
rise with him to new life.
He lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever.

When the Easter candle is lifted out of the water, the congregation acclaims:
โ—Ž Let the waters bless the Lord, praise and exalt him above all forever.
 
After the acclamation, the priest stands and asks the adult catechumens and the parents or godparents of the infants to renounce Satan and sin. This is done according to the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) or the Rite of Baptism for Children, respectively.
If the anointing with oil for the adult catechumens was not done during the preparation rites, it is done at this time.
Following the prescribed rite, the priest asks the adults each of the articles of the faith, and in the case of infants, asks all the parents and godparents together to profess their faith three times.
In places where there are many people to be baptized that night, the rite may be adapted as follows: after the responses of the catechumens and godparents, the celebrant immediately asks everyone present to renew their baptismal promises.
After the questions, the priest baptizes the adults and infants.
After the baptism, the priest anoints the infants with chrism. He gives a white garment to both adults and infants. Then the priest or deacon receives the Easter candle from the hands of a minister and lights the candles of the new Christians. The rite of Ephphatha (opening of the ears) is omitted for the infants.
If the rite of washing with water or the explanation of the meaning of baptism was not done at the font, the new Christians or their godparents or parents, holding lighted candles, process to the altar as before. During the procession, the baptismal hymn from the Roman Missal (no. 56) or another suitable song is sung.
If an adult is baptized, the bishop, or in his absence, the priest who baptized him, confirms him immediately at the altar, with the bishop's mandate. The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults or the Roman Pontifical is followed.

the priest leads the faithful in the blessing of water as follows: >

In this water sprinkled to commemorate the baptism we received
Let us earnestly pray for God's protection.
God made us new
Let us remain faithful to the Holy Spirit which we have received.
Silence for a moment, the priest prays with open arms.
Dear Lord,
For mercy's help to the people of the Lord who will be on this holy night
He created man in a mysterious way, and was saved in a more mysterious way
For those of us who remember God's great achievements, surrender to this water.
God made this water and made the land fertile
Did people drink and wash themselves?
And with this water, give mercy to the Lord
We liberated the people of the Lord from the life of the sect
They had quenched their thirst in the desert.
The prophets used this water

After the celebration of the baptism (and confirmation) liturgy, or in the absence of baptism and confirmation, after the blessing of water (cf. no. 49), if the renewal of baptismal promises was not done with the catechumens and candidates for confirmation, all stand with lighted candles and renew the promises made at baptism.
The priest exhorts the faithful with the following words or similar ones:
 
โ•‹ Dear brothers and sisters,
through baptism we have shared in the paschal mystery,
dying and rising to new life with Christ.
As we conclude our Lenten journey,
let us renew the promises we made at baptism,
renouncing Satan and all his works
and pledging ourselves to serve God
within the holy catholic Church.
The priest then says:
โ•‹ Do you renounce Satan?
โ—Ž Yes, I do.
โ•‹ Do you renounce all his works?
โ—Ž Yes, I do.
โ•‹ Do you renounce all his empty promises?

who was born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died,
and was buried; he descended into the dead;
on the third day he rose again from the dead;
he ascended into heaven,
and is seated at the right hand of the Father?
โ—Ž  Yes, I do.
โ•‹ Do you believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,

The priest concludes with the following prayer:

< The priest sprinkles the congregation with holy water. Everyone sings the following song. >

Wherever the water touched, all were saved. Alleluia, alleluia.
Another song with the meaning of baptism may be sung.
While the song is being sung, the new faithful return to their places among the congregation.
If the baptismal water was not blessed at the font,

the deacon and ministers reverently transfer the baptismal water to the baptismal font.
If the baptismal font was not blessed, the holy water is placed in a suitable place.
After sprinkling the holy water, the priest goes to the presider's chair.

The homily is omitted, and the priest leads the General Intercessions in

which the new faithful participate for the first time.

Lord, Prince of Peace, look with compassion on our world, where innocent lives are lost to war and violence. Grant that we may put the value of life above all selfish interests and work tirelessly for true peace.

์˜ค๋Š˜์˜ ๋ฌต์ƒ  Today's Meditation

On the first day of the week, very early in the morning, the women who had watched over Jesus' death came to the tomb.
The Gospel passage for today contains many expressions of time (after the Sabbath, the first day of the week, very early in the morning, at sunrise), which serve to emphasize that the resurrection is a real event.
The resurrection is an event that happened in a specific time and place, and it tells us that a new era has now begun.
For Christians, the first day of the week is the Lord's Day (Sunday), the day when the new creation began.
Just as God said, "Let there be light," and there was light on the first day of creation (Genesis 1:3), so now on the first day of the new creation, the light of Christ overcomes the darkness and begins a new era.
When the women arrived at the tomb, they were surprised to find that the stone had been rolled away.
The Greek verb used here is in the passive voice ("apokekylistai"), which indicates that this was an event that was "brought about by God."
This is a clear declaration that the resurrection was an event that God himself directed.
Inside the tomb, the women met a young man dressed in white who told them, "He has risen! He is not here."
Since he had passed from death to life, it was only natural that he was no longer in the tomb.
The history of God's salvation is a history of "passing over" (pascha).
It is a passing over from death to life, from darkness to light, from slavery to freedom.
This is not a matter of "mere change" or "abstract allusion." It is a "fact" and a "reality" that has been concretely accomplished through Jesus.
That is why the Church celebrates and commemorates this real change and the reality of salvation with the song "Let us rejoice!"
It is our task to believe that this passing over has taken place in our own reality and to "go to Galilee" without fear, now that we have been reborn as new people in the light of the resurrection.
