[์ž/Purple] Saturday of the Fifth Week of Lent.

์ž…๋‹น์†ก  Introit Antiphon Psalm 22(21):20.7

O Lord, do not be far from me.
You are my strength, come quickly to help me.
I am a worm, and no man,
scorned by men and despised by the people.

๋ณธ๊ธฐ๋„  Collect

God,
You have made all who are born anew in Christ
a chosen race, a royal priesthood.
May we who have been called to eternal life
be one,
with one mind and one heart,
believing and practicing love for one another.
Through Christ our Lord.
Amen.

์ œ 1๋…์„œ  First Reading
< I will make them one nation upon the land. >

โ–ฅ This is a word from the book of Ezekiel.  Ez 37:21-28
Thus says the Lord GOD:
I will take the children of Israel from among the nations
to which they have come,
and gather them from all sides to bring them back to their land.
I will make them one nation upon the land,
in the mountains of Israel,
and there shall be one prince for them all.
Never again shall they be two nations,
and never again shall they be divided into two kingdoms.
No longer shall they defile themselves with their idols,
their abominations, and all their transgressions.
I will deliver them from all their sins of apostasy,
and cleanse them so that they may be my people
and I may be their God.
My servant David shall be prince over them,
and there shall be one shepherd for them all;
they shall live by my statutes and carefully observe my decrees.
They shall live on the land that I gave to my servant Jacob,
the land where their fathers lived;
they shall live on it forever,
they, and their children, and their children’s children,
with my servant David their prince forever.
I will make with them a covenant of peace;
it shall be an everlasting covenant with them,
and I will multiply them, and put my sanctuary among them forever.
My dwelling shall be with them;
I will be their God, and they shall be my people.
Thus the nations shall know that it is I, the LORD,
who make Israel holy,
when my sanctuary shall be set up among them forever.

The Word of the Lord.
โ—Ž Thanks be to God.

ํ™”๋‹ต์†ก  Responsorial Psalm Jeremiah 31:10, 11-12abcd, 13(โ—Ž 10d)

โ—Ž The Lord will guard us, as a shepherd guards his flock.
โ—‹ Hear the word of the LORD, O nations,
proclaim it on distant isles, and say:
He who scattered Israel, now gathers them together,
he guards them as a shepherd his flock. โ—Ž
โ—‹ The LORD shall ransom Jacob,
he shall redeem him from the hand of his conqueror.
Shouting, they shall mount the heights of Zion,
they shall come streaming to the LORD’s blessings:
The grain, the wine, and the oil,
the sheep and the oxen. โ—Ž
โ—‹ Then the virgins shall make merry and dance,
and young men and old as well.
I will turn their mourning into joy,
I will console and gladden them after their sorrows. โ—Ž

๋ณต์Œ ํ™˜ํ˜ธ์†ก  Alleluia Ez 18:31

(โ—Ž  Alleluia! Praise to you, Christ, the Way, the Truth, and the Life. )
โ—‹ Cast away from you all the crimes you have committed, says the LORD,
and make for yourselves a new heart and a new spirit.
(โ—Ž  Alleluia! Praise to you, Christ, the Way, the Truth, and the Life. )

๋ณต์Œ  Gospel
< Jesus will gather the children of God who are scattered abroadinto one. >

โœ  The Holy Gospel according to John.  Jn 11:45-56
Many of the Jews who had come to Mary
and seen what Jesus had done began to believe in him.
But some of them went to the Pharisees
and told them what Jesus had done.
So the chief priests and the Pharisees
convened the Sanhedrin and said,
“What are we going to do?
This man is performing many signs.
If we leave him alone, all will believe in him,
and the Romans will come
and take away both our land and our nation.”
But one of them, Caiaphas,
who was high priest that year, said to them,
“You know nothing,
nor do you consider that it is better for you
that one man should die instead of the people,
so that the whole nation may not perish.”
He did not say this on his own,
but since he was high priest for that year,
he prophesied that Jesus was going to die for the nation,
and not only for the nation,
but also to gather into one the dispersed children of God.
So from that day on they planned to kill him.

So Jesus no longer walked about in public among the Jews,
but he left for the region near the desert,
to a town called Ephraim,
and there he remained with his disciples.

Now the Passover of the Jews was near,
and many went up from the country to Jerusalem
before Passover to purify themselves.
They looked for Jesus and said to one another
as they were in the temple area, “What do you think?
That he will not come to the feast?”

The Gospel of the Lord.
โ—Ž Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

์˜ˆ๋ฌผ ๊ธฐ๋„  Prayer over the Gifts

May your grace lead us to the eternal life you have promised.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ,
Amen.

๊ฐ์‚ฌ์†ก  Preface
< Preface for the Passion I: The Power of the Cross

Father most holy, almighty and everlasting God,
it is truly right and our bounden duty at all times and in all places to give you thanks.
Through the suffering of your Son,
the whole world has been brought to the knowledge of your majesty.
By the power of the cross,
the mystery of your love is revealed to us.
Therefore, with all the angels and saints,
we acclaim your glory and sing your praise.
Amen.

๋ฐฑ์„ฑ์„ ์œ„ํ•œ ๊ธฐ๋„  Prayer for the People
< May be said freely. >

Lord,
have mercy on your praying Church,
and graciously look upon those who turn their hearts to you.
Protect those whom you have redeemed by the death of your only Son,
so that they may never again fall into sin and misery.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Amen.

์˜ค๋Š˜์˜ ๋ฌต์ƒ  Today's Meditation

The stark division in people's attitude towards Jesus after He raised Lazarus from Bethany is evident. While "many people believed in Jesus," "some of them went to the Pharisees" and reported the event. This led to the involvement of the Sanhedrin, the highest Jewish ruling body, who convened to discuss Jesus.
The Jewish leaders were concerned that if many people continued to believe in Jesus and recognize Him as "the King" (the Messiah of the Davidic line), the Romans would perceive it as a political rebellion.
Caiaphas, the high priest, proposed a solution to this dilemma: it was better for "one man to die for the people" than for the whole nation to perish. This was a purely political decision, as the innocence of the sacrificial victim was irrelevant. All that mattered was that the scapegoat would provide a definitive motive to end all the confusion and unrest.
However, God used even Caiaphas' unjust decision for His own purposes. Through the high priest's mouth, it was declared that Jesus' death would be "for the people" and would "gather into one the children of God who are scattered abroad." Thus, following the proposal of the high priest, who was the head of the Sanhedrin, "they decided that day to put Jesus to death."
Their fear originated from jealousy and rivalry. The Sanhedrin disguised their own insecurity under the guise of nationalistic sentiments, but in reality, their fear stemmed from jealousy of Jesus. The fear of the vested interests led them to label even the slightest movement of the people as "rebellion."
However, today's reading proclaims: "I will make a covenant of peace with them; it shall be an everlasting covenant with them." "Then they shall know that I am the Lord."
