[๋ฐฑ/White] Solemnity of Saint Joseph, husband of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

[์ž/Purple] Tuesday of the Fifth Week of Lent.

< Gloria > < Creed >

Joseph, a descendant of David, was a righteous man who worked as a carpenter in Nazareth of Galilee. He was betrothed to Mary, but before they came together, Mary was found to be pregnant through the Holy Spirit.
Joseph, not knowing this, was minded to divorce her, but an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and revealed God's will. Joseph then took Mary as his wife.
In this way, Joseph became the protector of the Holy Family and played a vital role in caring for Jesus and Mary.
He is also the patron saint of the dying and the protector of the Holy Church.

์ œ 2๋…์„œ  Second Reading
< Abraham hoped against hope. >

โ–ฅ A reading from the Letter of Saint Paul to the Romans.   Rom 4:13, 16-18, 22
Brothers and sisters:
It was not through the law
that the promise was made to Abraham and his descendants
that he would inherit the world,
but through the righteousness that comes from faith.
For this reason, it depends on faith,
so that it may be a gift,
and the promise may be guaranteed to all his descendants,
not to those who only adhere to the law
but to those who follow the faith of Abraham,
who is the father of all of us, as it is written,
I have made you father of many nations.
He is our father in the sight of God,
in whom he believed, who gives life to the dead
and calls into being what does not exist.
He believed, hoping against hope,
that he would become
the father of many nations,
according to what was said,
Thus shall your descendants be.
That is why it was credited to him as righteousness.

The Word of the Lord.
โ—Ž Thanks be to God.

Jacob was the father of Joseph, the husband of Mary.
Of her was born Jesus who is called the Christ.
Now this is how the birth of Jesus Christ came about.
When his mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph,
but before they lived together,
she was found with child through the Holy Spirit.
Joseph her husband, since he was a righteous man,
yet unwilling to expose her to shame,
decided to divorce her quietly.
Such was his intention when, behold,
the angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said,
“Joseph, son of David,
do not be afraid to take Mary your wife into your home.
For it is through the Holy Spirit
that this child has been conceived in her.
She will bear a son and you are to name him Jesus,
because he will save his people from their sins.”
When Joseph awoke,
he did as the angel of the Lord had commanded him
and took his wife into his home.

โœ  The Holy Gospel according to Luke. Lk 2:41-51a
Each year Jesus’ parents went to Jerusalem for the feast of Passover,
and when he was twelve years old,
they went up according to festival custom.
After they had completed its days, as they were returning,
the boy Jesus remained behind in Jerusalem,
but his parents did not know it.
Thinking that he was in the caravan,
they journeyed for a day
and looked for him among their relatives and acquaintances,
but not finding him,
they returned to Jerusalem to look for him.
After three days they found him in the temple,
sitting in the midst of the teachers,
listening to them and asking them questions,
and all who heard him were astounded
at his understanding and his answers.
When his parents saw him,
they were astonished,
and his mother said to him,
“Son, why have you done this to us?
Your father and I have been looking for you with great anxiety.”
And he said to them,
“Why were you looking for me?
Did you not know that I must be in my Father’s house?”
But they did not understand what he said to them.
He went down with them and came to Nazareth,
and was obedient to them.

๊ฐ์‚ฌ์†ก  Preface
< Solemnity of Saint Joseph >

Holy Father, almighty and eternal God,
It is truly right and just, our duty and our salvation, always and everywhere to give you thanks.
We especially praise and glorify you on this, the feast day of Blessed Joseph.
You chose Joseph, a just man, to be the husband of the Virgin Mary, the Mother of God.
You made Joseph the faithful and wise head of the Holy Family.
You entrusted him with the care of your Son, Jesus Christ, conceived by the Holy Spirit.
Through Christ, the angels praise your majesty,
the principalities adore you,
the powers tremble before you,
the heavens and all the heavenly hosts,
the blessed Seraphim and Cherubim,
join together in unceasing praise.
We join our voices to theirs, and humbly sing to you:
Holy, holy, holy Lord God of hosts!
Heaven and earth are full of your glory!
Hosanna in the highest!
Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!
Amen.

Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master.

์˜์„ฑ์ฒด ํ›„ ๋ฌต์ƒ  Meditation after Communion

Abraham believed in the promise of the Lord even though there was no hope, and Joseph, hearing the angel's message in his dream not to be afraid and to take Mary as his wife, did so.
“The promise is fulfilled according to faith and is given by grace.”

< Let us pray silently for a while in union with Christ. >

์˜์„ฑ์ฒด ํ›„ ๊ธฐ๋„  Prayer after Communion

Lord,
As we joyfully celebrate the feast of blessed Joseph,
and have been abundantly fed with the bread of life at this altar,
we pray that you will keep us forever
and enable us to cherish the graces you have so mercifully bestowed upon us.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever.
Amen.

์˜ค๋Š˜์˜ ๋ฌต์ƒ  Today's Meditation

Saint Joseph, the patron of the Church and the father of us all, shows us by his example the attitude that a human being should have when faced with unexpected events and suffering.
First, there is righteousness. "Joseph was a righteous man." For the Jews, 'betrothal' meant that even though they did not live together, they already had the same status as a married couple. In this case, if a woman had a child with someone other than her husband, she would be punished (stoned) according to the law (see Deuteronomy 22:21). Joseph wanted to spare Mary by quietly 'breaking off the engagement' to avoid the punishment of blood revenge. However, when he learned God's will in a dream, he immediately abandoned his own plans and followed God's will. For Joseph, 'righteousness' (justice) was not a virtue that was realized by following the law, but by following God's will.
Second, there is faith. This righteousness is always based on 'faith.' The second reading highlights the commonalities between Joseph and Abraham through the example of Abraham. They were those who practiced "righteousness obtained by faith," and God "recognized their faith as righteousness." The realization of righteousness (justice) cannot be achieved without faith.
Finally, there is practice. "Joseph woke up and did what the angel of the Lord had commanded him." He carried out God's will silently, without a word of resistance or objection.
Joseph's life was neither a powerless emptiness nor a meaningless sacrifice. It was a life of true dignity that showed that one can shine simply by revering God and faithfully fulfilling the mission entrusted to him.
